Korean Artists vs American Immigration

Korean artists vs American Immigration. This situation is crazy. Last night Dean’s manager sent out a message to Dean’s fans explaining the difficulties that happened before, during and after his performance.

Now before I go on, I want to put in a disclaimer. I don’t know everything about Immigration, Customs, and everything when in the discussion of detention. I’m simply going to discuss what I’ve seen/heard so far.

Dean, according to the message, had been up for almost 2 days with no sleep in conditions that were deplorable. I’m not sure if they had a translator during his whole ordeal but if they didn’t can you imagine? It must have been a frustrating and scary experience for Dean.

This isn’t the first time there has been Korean Artists vs American immigration. A year ago, Oh My Girl was trying to enter America to do a photoshoot for an upcoming album. According to some reports, the group was mistaken for prostitutes working ladies. Yeonhap News said that it wasn’t because of their luggage but because of visa issues. Regardless of the reason, Oh My Girl ended up returning to Korea without being able to complete their photoshoot.

Some artists plan on performing in the States end up having to cancel because of “visa issues”. Kim Bum Soo, a popular Korean ballad singer, had his LA concert canceled. His company cited issues with receiving Kim’s performance visa. Wheesung and Moon Myung Jin had their concert canceled in 2014 due to a similar issue.

So what is the point of talking about all this? Am I looking to blame companies for canceled concerts? No, my post is not to place blame on anyone. It’s to remind people how much idols go through to bring their fans a once in a lifetime experience. Can idols control outside factors like being detained? No. They’re human beings just like the rest of us. So let’s try to give them a break if the cut a concert a few minutes early or can’t hit that high note like they do on the album.

Have you ever planned on attending a concert only to have it canceled due to something like this? Let me know if the comment section below.
