Soju, The Rooftop Prince’s Way

K-Dramas Korean Food

As I’m sure you know, I am in LOVE with the kdrama Rooftop Prince. It’s funny, exciting, a bit sad at moments…I could go on and on. If you’ve seen the show (and why aren’t you watching it if you haven’t) you know that our 전하 only likes sweet drinks. This includes soju.

As you can see in the picture, they have a bottle of soju with a can of whipped cream. As I had never had soju before, I couldn’t even fathom how downing a shot of it would taste with a whipped cream chaser. Apparently though, it tastes very good.

This looked so good that I had to try it for myself. So this past weekend I decided to enlist the help of my husband and try soju, the rooftop prince’s way.

I was in the Asian market for like an hour looking for the “right” kind of soju. Since I am so inexperienced with this, I didn’t realize how many brands and versions there were. All I was going off of was soju comes in a green bottle. Anyway the brand I ended up with is called 50seju by Kooksoondang. Since it was spelled a bit differently, I was afraid it wasn’t actually soju but hey, I was committed to this.  Since neither my husband or I are heavy drinkers, I googled up some recipes for soju to keep things interesting. Thank goodness for asiansupper.com. We tried lemon soju and apple soju.

Lemon soju is basically half soju, half Sprite and a splash of lemon juice. I don’t have any pics of the apple soju because my motor skills were coming into question at  that point.
I think its going to take some getting used to (drinking soju) but it wasn’t that bad when you added the shot of cream after it. Or drank lemon soju which was my favorite out of the bunch. I think next time I get a wild hair, I will try yogurt soju.

Oh and if you were asking (like I was before this) what does soju taste like? I say it tastes like a strong beer. My husband says it reminds him of sake. Since I’ve never had sake, I couldn’t tell you if that’s true.  Also I realized that I don’t have any pictures of me actually drinking the soju but I did. Next time I promise to catch myself in the act.
