Kpop Review: Kara – Day & Night Mini Album

K-Pop
Kara Day and Night review

I know, I KNOW I’m late to the party with this. Well in my defense, I’m not really late because I did do a reaction to Kara’s Mamma Mia when it first came out.

I remember really liking it and wanted to be in the m/v as a back up dancer (which I am still available to do, just sayin’) but in my classic ajummah mind self, I forgot about listening to the rest of the album.

Enter Megan Bowen (aka Chonun Migook Saram…imnida!)

Nothing like binging on a person’s youtube channel to help you discover new (to me) music. The video she did above made me remember that I liked Kara’s new song as I started dancing along to the music. Then I said to myself, oh yeah! Let me check the rest of the album since it’s probably on iTunes.

And it’s true. This album is only 6 songs long and I’m actually a bit saddened by this. Why does kpop always release 27 EPs with 3-5 songs but rarely get a full album? I know they are busy with a lot schedules but jeez… anyways let’s get into each song.

1. Live

This song is pretty decent. I like the fact that there are instruments  [horns! piano!] (read more then just synthesizer and autotune) in this (and other songs). I listened to the snippet on iTunes a few times before heading over to Youtube to hear the whole thing. It reminds me of sitting in a bluesy type club and listening to the band… I like this image for Kara. I don’t know if Kara really does stuff like this but it would be nice if they do.

2. Mamma Mia!

By far, my favorite of the album. Holy smokes! I really do like this type of song. I imagine myself using this song as the background to my a montage of my day. Waking up, working out, running to work, hanging out with the girls then coming home for family time before heading to bed & waking up to do it again. Don’t judge me okay, this is what pops into my head when I hear it. SERIOUSLY.

3.So Good

This was a cute song. Not one of my favs but again, plus for having horns and a lively piano. The whole yeah yeah yeah yeah part reminds me of something, but for the life of me I can’t remember the song.

4. Melancholy (24/7)

Just by the title, I thought I was going to get something ballady but that was not the case. Again it is not a favorite of mine but it was alright.

5. Red Light

A bit slower then the previous songs but I wouldn’t call it a ballad. Mid-tempo? Sure we’ll go with that. I like the lower register of the song (if that makes sense?).

6. Story

Finally the ballad I was looking for! Enjoy this song thoroughly. I am definitely going to have to find more slower Kara songs because I really like the tone of their voices when they slow things down. And yes I know there are new members but I still like how they sound, ok?

So that’s it! What did you think of the album? I’m looking forward to more music from them and will be definitely listening to some of their older things.
