KCON NY 2018 Final Line Up

Last week, via the KCON Live Chat, the final artists were announced. I will be honest. There are some artists on here that I don’t really know a lot of information on but what better way to learn new music then by going to a concert and getting immersed in them. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the KCON NY 2018 final line up.

Golden Child

I really don’t know anything about this group. When KCON announced it, I actually thought they were a girl group (oops) but they are a 10-member boy group from Woolim Entertainment. Some of the members were featured in W Project which released music to spotlight Woollim trainees. The group officially debuted on August 28, 2017, with their first mini-album, Gol-cha! With title track “DamDaDi.” On January 29, 2018, Golden Child had their first comeback with second mini-album Miracle featuring title track “It’s U.” The group also won “Global Rookie Top 5” award at the 2018 V Live Awards.

Red Velvet

Red Velvet is a five-member girl group who debuted in 2014 with the song Happiness. Their first U.S. performance was at KCON 2015 Los Angeles. I’ve been playing their song, Kingdom Come on repeat since it came out last summer and of course, who can forget another favorite of mine, Peak-A-Boo.

Pentagon

I know next to zero about Pentagon. They are a 10 member group under Cube Entertainment. Pentagon made their official debut after completing the MNET survival show, Pentagon Maker. They released their first EP, Pentagon with the song Gorilla in 2016. Pentagon made a recent comeback with their sixth Korean EP called Positive and released an m/v for their lead single, Shine.

Super Junior

This group really needs no introduction. Super Junior has been one of the best-selling artists in the history of K-pop, having earned thirteen music awards from the Mnet Asian Music Awards, sixteen from the Golden Disc Awards, won Favorite Artist Korea at the 2008 MTV Asia Awards as well as the International Artist and Best Fandom at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards. Currently, the actively promoting members of Super Junior for their upcoming 8th repackage album Replay are Leeteuk, Heechul, Yesung, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Siwon, and Donghae. The repackaged album dropped on April 12 with the title track, Lo Siento.

Fromis_9

This is another group that I don’t know much about. This girl group comes from the reality show, From Idol School and have 9 members. To date, Fromis_9 only has two officially released songs, Glass Shoes and To Heart.

NCT127

Shout out to KCON for bringing back these beauties. I love NCT127 so much. Lucas isn’t part of this subunit but you won’t be disappointed in watching them perform. Followed by their debut, they are getting global attention and constantly winning the 1st place in various global music charts, with their songs such as ‘Limitless’, ‘Cherry Bomb’, ‘TOUCH’ and etc. With all their achievements, fans around the world have high expectations for their future performances.

Stray Kids

JYP Entertainment’s 9-member boy group formed through Mnet’s reality show Stray Kids in 2017. Prior to the premiere of Stray Kids, the group released a music video for their first single Hellevator on October 6, 2017, and the single took top five on iTunes’ K-pop chart in 12 countries.

Heize

I love Heize! She is an amazing singer-songwriter and rapper. She debuted in 2014 with her single After I’ve Wandered A Bit. In July 2016, she released her second EP album And July with the title track And July featuring DEAN and DJ Friz. In March 2018, Heize released her fourth EP album Wind with the title track Jenga.

EXID

Short for Exceed in Dreaming, EXID is a K-pop girl group formed in 2012. The group debuted with the single Whoz That Girl. They rose to fame with their single Up & Down in 2014 and promoted the song once more after promotions ended due to its newfound success. In December 2016, Banana Culture announced leader Solji’s hiatus. The remaining four members continued promotions with two more EPs Eclipse and Full Moon in 2017. In April 2018, EXID made another comeback as four with the ‘90s-channeling new single Lady.
