Stray Kids First Take On Tower of God

K-Pop Webtoons
stray kids first take on tower of god

Stray Kids and Tower of God. A year ago, I wouldn’t have believed it. Let me explain. I don’t talk about it much, but I’m a lover of webtoons. It all started when a friend of mine suggested demanded I read a few. I’ve been hooked ever since. Usually, I read horror toons like Bastard and Sweet Home but also enjoy others like True Beauty. I digress. It’s no secret that one of the popular webtoons, Tower of God, has been made into anime available on Crunchyroll. I was late to the party reading the webtoon (I know, I know), but when I heard that Stray Kids would be lending their vocal greatness to the opening and ending, I had to dive in.

I’ll save my review of Tower of God webtoon/anime for another day, but let’s talk about Stray Kids and the music. If you’re an anime lover, you KNOW how important the music is to the storyline. I know how good they are when it comes to k-pop, but I was hesitant when it came to the anime. Would they be able to create the feeling of epicness that was needed?

I shouldn’t have worried. TOP and Slump are both so good; the songs make you want to listen to them even when you aren’t watching Tower of God. Stray Kids went one step further and decided to participate in the series “THE FIRST TAKE” on Youtube. It’s an original series from THE FIRST TAKE YouTube channel dedicated to filming performances by musicians and singers in a single take. The group’s episode is a special come back to present a performance by the popular K-POP group.

Do you know how difficult that is? Even when you are a trained professional, it’s difficult to sing a song without any problems. When you add that it’s not in your native language…you get the point. Stray Kids proved their weight in gold, though, because the song is flawless. In the video, you can hear how nervous they were in the beginning and how excited they were once they were able to complete it.

Stray Kids’ leader, Bang Chan, even said how honored they were to have been selected to perform on the special comeback.

“I was initially a little nervous when I heard we were to be filmed singing live in one take from start to finish, but I really started to enjoy myself as I got into the song. I feel as though this new experience has helped us take another positive step forward.

It’s also made us want to work harder than ever at our art, and we hope to show our strengths to a great number of people in the future to come. We hope our live performance video on THE FIRST TAKE will give people encouragement and the motivation to uplift themselves.”

Listen, I thought Stray Kids was doing great before! I believe this will be the start of something great as more webtoons get remade into animes and Korean dramas. Can you imagine your favorite group creating the opening scene to your favorite webtoon? It’s an exciting thought. Let me know who you would want to sing on what webtoon.
