Why Hate Honey Popcorn?

I’ve been going back and forth about writing this article for some time. Honey Popcorn is a female k-pop group that debuted recently with the song Bibidi Babidi Boo and no they aren’t from Cinderella. The song itself seems par for the course when it comes to k-pop girl groups. It’s catchy and the girls are adorable. So why are they receiving so much hate? I checked Youtube and there are about 32k dislikes to the video at the time this was published.

To put it bluntly, the members of Honey Popcorn are also adult film stars. I’ll wait until everyone finishes gasping. *rolls eyes* It seems like once the cat was out of the bag, so to speak, netizens instantly hated the trio without even waiting to hear if they are good singers.

What I can’t understand is, why hate Honey Popcorn for their past work? Aren’t these the same people who dedicate their nights reading and writing fanfics? I’ve read fanfics before and some of that stuff can make even a seasoned porn watcher blush. Trust me, it’s crazy out there.  So for those who have obsessions with yaoi, traditional and every other genre of fanfics, for those who spam k-pop videos with comments of what they want to do with their bias, yet hate these women and say that Honey Popcorn shouldn’t debut because of their image…ya’ll need to have several seats.

I will let you in on a little secret. Your k-pop idols are probably out there having sex. If not at this exact moment, they have in the past and it’s okay. Fans need to realize that idols are human. They do human things like fart, use the bathroom, and procreate with other people (shocker). Some might even do it on video (for their private collection, of course).

Don’t hate these women, who are actually decent performers, simply because you’re uncomfortable with the human anatomy and what it can do. I’m going to support them because to debut in this day and age is damn hard. Also if the rumor is true that the leader paid for the album/music video herself, then all the more reason to support them.

Until you mentioned the girl’s start in the entertainment industry, I assumed they would be like the usual syrupy sweet girl groups I avoid. People should dislike the song for the song. And your’e right, I’m sure a few singers out there have sordid pasts. And fanfic, I tried one and couldn’t finish it. Mercy!

@NewKdramaAddict the thing is, the song IS like that. Some people (Youtube comments) are demanding that because of their background, they shouldn’t present themselves with the pure concept. But again, I’m confused as to why? Girl groups switch up concepts all the time. By that logic, no one should be doing the sexy concept (male or female) unless they have some type of sexual history. Total BS in my book. You should be able to do whatever concept is suitable for you and your group. And I agree. People should like/dislike the song for the sound of it.
